IMF loan and its conseqences

Finally Sri Lankan government is able to get IMF loan overcomming the some opposition protests.This will be a huge relief for the Sri Lankan government since their foreign currency reserves are in very low leval.This situation occured not because sri lankan own crisis but due to global financial crisis which reduced the income of lanka's apperal industry.
Opposition parties specilly UNP are accusing governement by saying government has bent to the IMF to get this loan.But governement replied that there are no harmfull conditions with this loan.According to the IMF this loan is aimed at addressing shor term economic needs of the country which is facing balance of payment difficulties while laying long term sustainable growth.
It is surely helpfull for local financial sector as well.Sudden increase of colomo stock exchange index after getting the news of IMF deal indicates it.

There are lot of discussions going on regarding IMF loan for Sri Lanka these days.Pro LTTE groups and some NGO's are even signing petition to stop this. UNP accuse that it is against the Mahinda Chintanaya which was the UPFA election manifesto of 2005 presidentaial election. We remember that Wimal weerawansa who was with the JVP those days said that Mahinda led government would remove the plug from world bank and IMF.But now government has no other option rather getting fund from IMF because financial sector is in dire situation in terms of capital reserves.
In my opinion,getting an IMF loan is not bad thing since those agencies are here to help developing countries.Lets see whats gona happend in near future..

After lot of thinking decided to persuade my post graduate education from the field of Economics.I think although I had been studying for engineering for long time my passion is social science subjects like Economics,Politics,History etc.

Today I start my CCIE journey.I was thinking of persue CCIE VOICE track earlier but I realised that starting from CCIE Routing and Switching track would be more valuer and easy to learn. There are lot of study matarieals on routing and switching track but for voice track it is limited.
First hurdle is to pass ccie written exam and then the real evil battle start.

I just saw a nice cartoon from today's Divaina.It is nicely explained the sad situation in Sri Lankan universities.As a SL university drop out I know that all these clashes start with student politics. In most of the srilankan universities there are two groups.First group is called raggers.Other one called anti-raggers.Raggers who support ragging and anti-raggers are against it.Universities like Kalaniya,Jayawardanapura,Peradeniya,Wayamba majority of students are raggers.But there are some anti-raggers but in small in number.In University of Colombo and Moratuwa majortiy are anti-raggers.
In universities with majority of raggers , student councils are runed by 'Anthara wiswa widyala shishaya bala bandale' aka 'anthare'.Most of the anthare guys mainly support one political party.They used ragging to get students to thier political agendas.Most of them are furious over anti-raggers who are mostly come from city areas. The fights start with this raggers and anti-raggers conflict.Most of the time those clashes ended up with several people injured and universities close for several months.

Just read the news Sri Lanka beat Australia by 5 wickets at the under 19 World Cup in Malaysia. Australia was all out for 172 runs in 49.3 overs and in reply Sri Lanka reached the total comfortably in the 37th over with 5 wickets in hand.
Hope they will continue thier form and give a lession to SL senior cricket players.

Inflation rate in Sri Lanka

It has been said that inflation rate in Sri Lanka tops whole South and South East Asia.It is up to over 20% now. I think there are several reason for this.
1. Rising oil price in world market.
2. Escalated war.
3. Bad economic policies.

The first one is out of Sri Lanka's hand since Sri Lanka doesnt produce oil.So it is highly crusual factor for inflation.Every time oil price went up ,prices for public transport goes up.Not only that every other items including vegetable prices are going up too.

Escalated war is 2nd reason.Because It has been said that government has to allocate lot of money to war.Those money are not productive by economy wise.Although one might argue that those are short term expenditures but no one garantee when war will be ended near future.

3rd reason is government bad economic policies.Printing money to cover up budget deficits directly caused high inflation. It has been said that new notes value over 49 billion rupees printed by central bank.

I just read the news of Microsoft bids 42 billion dollers to buy Yahoo. What will will happend next?
Will Yahoo accept the bid? For me this is the tough time since yahoo has been in trouble situation in these days. Their stocks prices slummped and plan to cut 1000 jobs etc. Share holders may want their prices up and settling with microsoft means that thier stock prices going up for sure. This will be huge bonus if microsoft succed this deal since they could challenge with Google's monopoly in the web business.

Another power devolution packege has been introduced by SL government. It is based on 13th amendment which was done in 1987. But governement says that they will fully implement this time which couldnt fully implement in 87 due to oppose of sinhala extremist parties.I still remember the incident that Rajiv gandhi was attacked by one of navy soldier although I was 6 years old in that time. That incident shows that some sinhalese feeling on power sharing proposals giving to tamils. Most interesting part is president mahinda him self against 13th amendment in 1987. But seems that now he believes SL national problem whould have ended If 13th amendment had fully implemented in 1987.

ITIL exam

Today I took ITIL foundation exam. It was foundation examination but not that easy to score higher marks. Pass mark for the foundation exam is 65%.My grade was 77%. I was very nervous to press the button to confirm my score since I had a doubt about my score.It was great relief to see my score was over the pass mark.

War comes to south

Now 4th eelam war has been officially started after governement abrogate CFA from 16th of January onwards. LTTE responded with brutal attack on civilians in buttala ,monaragala.
This is what happend in every time goverment troops succeed in attacks in north east. LTTE starts to attack innocent civilians in south. In our history we have lot of examples LTTE guerrillas responces when they come under heavy millitery pressure. Attacking innocent buddhist monks at Aranthalawa , bomibing temple of tooth at Kandy are few of those attacks.

Both parties government and UNP trying to win support for thier side. It said that both parties are using milions of rupees to get new members to thier sides. I think JVP still remain silent but in the end they will not cast thier vote to support militery actions carrying out by this government.
So in my opinion UNP's chance to topple this government is very slim at the moment.

Attack on Anuradhapura air base

Anuradhapura air force base has been attacked by ltte tigers today morning.
According to the reports 5 militery planes have been distroyed and 4 air force officers killed in this attack.
Sri Lanka air force sources say that the pre dawn terrorists attack at Anuradhapura airbase has been effectively surmounted. A major search operation has been launched in the area by army and police personnel. Police curfew has been enforced in Anuradhapura and Mihinthale areas. According to the latest information, troops engaged in clearing operations have found about 20 bodies of LTTE cadres killed in army and air force retaliations.

Bread price seems up by 5 rupees in srilanka after flour price is going up by 13 rupees.This will be huge burden for the poor people because most of the poor are eating bread atleast for one meal.
This price hike is due to governements bad handling of economy.Now cost of living is pretty close to some what developed countries but earnins remain same for the same most of the workers except politicians and businessman.

Over 20 of our serendib club members were gathered to hitotsubashi university kodaira campus to see this once in a 4 year huge event but results was not that we might want. Adam gilcrist played an gem of innings in his carrer best knock of world cups destroy all srilankans hopes to win world cup 2nd time.But for other hand Aussies go home for 3rd consecutive time and they prove they are the best cricket team once more.

Semi finals for 2007 cricket world cup will underway next week. Srilanka plays New Zealand and Aussies playing with South africans. My prediction is Sri Lanka vs Aussie finals on 28 th .
Though Aussies are well ahead of srilankans comapre to their world cup performances but Srilankans are the only team who can beat Aussies this time in my opinion.
But first have to beat New Zealand to enter the finals . Most people say that if sanath fires srilanka is in the finals but I have to say that sana should not be only batsamn who must fire in matches like this.

Arnold and upul chandana recalled to 15 men squad for one day tournement in india. But unfortunately Kapugedara is dropped from the squad.And that useless guy Kulasekara is in back with the team. I dont know why he is in the team. I am that guy hasnt got any pace or swing.
Seems he regarded as a seem bowler but I remeber in the tour of england he couldnt get any swing at all. There lot more better fast bowlers are in srilanka for sure.

Singhlish Editor

This editor is very good for sinhala typing.. We can type it in english and its automatcally converts sinhala fonts..But the problem is some times its converts wrong sinhala letter.. For example if write my name Asanka , its converts only 'n' as 'an' but in sinhala its write as '0'.. So I think it should need some more additions to this software .. But overally its quite a good ..Here is the screen shot of singlish.
